Earlier in the day a deadly earthquake struck in Western China at a magnitude of 7.1. The force of the quake brought destruction to human life and property. Reports confirmed 400 dead and 10,000 injured in Qinghai Province.
According the Chinese state media and Chinese officials the quake struck in a poor and sparsely populated area near the mountainous border with Tibet. Almost two years ago a deadly earthquake hit the region causing great devastation and killing as many as 87,000 people in the neighboring Sichuan Province.
The region where the earthquake struck is south of Qinghai province, borders Tibet and cover an area of 267,000 square kilometres with a population of about 280,000. The Qinghai province is approximately 12 hours drive from the capital of Xining.
Just hours after the initial earthquake struck another powerful earthquake has hit the western region of China. On Wednesday, Qinghai, China was hit by an earthquake measuring over 5.0 magnitudes.
