a 10-minute language exchange

Exchange experiences in several languages.

Hello folks, how are you?

I understand that sometimes having a conversation might be a little difficult, specially when we all start with the same old questions (I'm not criticing it as I do believe this is the best way to start a conversation and get to know each other). THe thing is, after the first conversation, when we already know each other, our likes and dislikes, our hobbys and so on.... the what's left? For this reason I'd like to propose a different chat. Let's gather together to talk about different themes.. What do you think about the end of the world in 2012? Is it scientific proved that if the yellowstone volcano erupts its ashes will cover the entire atmosphere and we will all die? How do you use your facebook to grown in knowledge and culture?

Let's do different.. Together let's try to learn new things and also have the chance to improve our foreign language. Togther we can do it.

Remember, we are here to share. That means help and been helped. If you are interested, either in one on one conversations or conferences, please add me to skype. The more friends we gather the better it will be. But remember, we are here to help and being helped. If you are not willing to speak in your native language too, don't bother joining us.

Thanks

Fernando

Hey! Thanks for editing my french! I appreciate it a lot. I am working on a composition now and I am trying to say that I have brown eyes and brown hair. Would I write cheveux et yeux brune? or brune cheveux et yeux? Thank you!

English and Français in exchange of Spanish, Catalan and a bit of Esperanto!

Hi Everybody! My name is David. I'm from Spain but I'm currently living in Argentina. I spent a year in Ireland in 2008 working as a graphic designer and as an illustrator too. But I wish I could improve my speaking level here. I have also studied French and it would be great to have someone to speak with. (J'aime beaucoup parler français!) In exchange I can help you out with your Spanish, you Catalan or even have some fun with my rudiments of Esperanto! I like books, history, mountains and wildlife! See you (on Skype)!

Why herb, ten, and mouth turn into thorny feeling?

We have a Japanese character, "苦," read as "Kuru-shii". When you have a
bad cough, it's so hard to breath. The choking-feeling is what we call Kuru-shii.

Why does the character take, from the above, the herb hat and the two signatures of ten and mouth?

The lower part composed of the ten and the mouth once showed ten generations. People in ancient times passed a certain story over ten generations if it was striking. When the earliest man took a bitter-tasted medicine, it must have been unforgettable for him. The story seem to have been handed over after ten generations. Therefore, when you put the herb crown on the ten and mouth, the result of today means "taste bitter."

Actually, the bottom part of ten and mouth itself (古) means old. Families of ten generations passed over another folk tale to their children, grandchildren, and etc. etc. That's how the character of old was born.

In addition, the sign 十 came from a bundle of ten sticks. One unit was wrapped up by the ten.
