Hello World.  You can call me Taterpeel.  It is a nickname that was given to me when I was in second grade.  Now, it is just a username that I use online sometimes.  But, even today, if someone addressed me by that name, I think that I'd respond without thinking about it.
I'd like to use this blog to practice Spanish.    In doing so, I plan to talk about things related to language and language learning that I think are worth sharing.  I will write my posts in English and Spanish.  I hope to get help with my translations.  But, I also hope to give English learners and English speakers something interesting and relevant to read.  If you are a Spanish speaker, I suggest reading the English first for practice.

First, I feel compelled somehow to say a little about myself.  I don't know why.  Maybe I think it will provide some context to whomever (if anyone) reads what I write in this blog.

I'm in my 40s. My native language is English.  I am from the United States.  I'm a computer programmer by profession.  By the way, when you learn a new programming language, almost invariably, the first program you are given to write is called "Hello World."  Hence, the title of this blog post.

I took three years of Spanish in high school.  That was in the mid-80s.  That was before I discovered how much I truly enjoy learning.  In September of 2008, I started attending a Spanish class.  The class is a perfect fit for me.  It is a small informal class with no grades.  I continue to go there every week because I enjoy being there, learning.  I enjoy going every week because the teacher and the other students are there for reasons similar to mine. 

Around the time that I started this class, I started looking for resources online to help me study Spanish.  What I have found online is an amazing wealth of materials and tools to use, and ways to connect with other people that were not possible when I was younger.

In this space, I hope to share my enthusiasm for what the Internet has to offer to language learners.   I also hope to learn from anyone who chooses to share what they know with the community here. 

Hola mundo.  Podeis llamarme Taterpeel.  Es un apodo que me pusieron cuando estaba en el segundo curso.  Ahora, es sólo un nombre de usuario que empleo en linea a veces.  Pero, aún hoy, si alguien me llama por ese apodo, pienso que yo respondiera sin pensarlo.  Me gustaría usar este blog para practicar español.  Por eso, pienso que hablar de cosas relacionadas con el idioma y el aprendizaje de los idiomas que pienso que valen la pena compartir.  Voy a escribir mis comentarios en ingles y español.  Espero recibir ayuda con mis traducciones.
Pero, también espero ofrecer a los estudiantes de inglés, y angloparlantes algo interesante y relevante que leer.  Si eres hispanohablante, te sugiero que lo leas en inglés al principio para practicar.

Antes que nada, me siento obligado de decir un poco sobre mi mismo.  No sé por qué.  Tal vez, lo creo que dará algun contexto a alguien (si alguien) leen lo que escribo en este blog.

Estoy en los cuarenta.  Mi idioma nativo es el inglés.  Soy de los Estados Unidos.  Soy programador.  A propósito, cuando aprendes un lenguaje de ordenador, casí invariablemente, el primer programa que se escribe se llama "Hola Mundo."  De ahí, el titulo de esta entrada del blog.

Yo hice tres años de español en la escuela.  Eso fue a mediados de los 80.  Eso era antes de descubrir lo tanto que me divierte aprender.  En octubre de 2008, empecé a asistir a una clase de español.  La clase es perfecta para mi. Es una clase pequeña y sin notas. 

Yo sigo yendo allí cada semana porque me divierte estar allá aprendiendo.  Me divierto de iryendo cada semana, porque, la maestra y los otras estudiantes están allí por unas razones similares a las mías.

Sobre la fecha en que empezé este clase, comencé a buscar recursos en internet que me ayudaran a estudiar español.  Lo que he encontrado ha sido una cantidad abundante e increíble de materiales y herramientas para usar, y métodos de conectar con otras personas que no eran posibles cuando era mas joven.

En este espacio, espero compartir mi entusiasmo con todo lo que internet puede brindar a los estudiantes de idiomas.  También, espero aprender de todo aquel que decida compartir lo que sabe con esta comunidad.
