Trying to write sth. here
I think it may be interesting to post sth. in English and improve my English writing skills out here.
The Mixxer provides me with a great place to improve my speaking. And of course it's a great place to meet people from around the world. :) Thank you for the Mixxer.
I'm curious about how you guys find the Mixxer. For me, one morning a few months ago I felt very bored (at that time I was waiting for the result of my job interview.) While the waiting, I played my friend's iphone and typed the phrase, language exchange, on Google search page..... and here you go.. the Mixxer came the first on the webpage. Maybe it's kind of "accident", but it provides me with a lot of fun later. ^___^
These days I read some great articles from New York Times and get some listening practices from ABC news. Haha... I'm trying hard to teach myself. I wish I'll be more confident about the second language and get some fun out there!

Native English and German speaker wanting to learn Dutch and Sign language
Hey people. I'm from Austria, with a scottish dad and an austrian mum. I've grown up in the U.A.E. and speak English and German. I'm looking for someone to learn Dutch from, because it's a lovely language and I like the country (been there twice). I also want to learn sign language because it interests me and it's completely visual, not auditory (though I understand that there might not be very many people on this site teaching this language) :)
hope to learn alot!

Setsubun bean throwing event In my neighborhood

February 3 was this year's Setsubun beans or nuts scatterings across the country Japan. The Japanese term Setsubun or 節分 literally means either the close of winter or the day before each season begins. Yet, the former definition is much more common in general.
Until the day reached, there had been a number of events for Setsubun at schools, community's shrines, and so on, for local kids. As a mother I took part in one of them with my kids, one of whom is a first grader in elementary school. The event was held by local seniors at a nearby shrine. As we and other students were invited to the party, thanks to those seniors, I'd like to write what we were given in my diary.
Before I tell what we did yesterday, I'll introduce to you a bit of the Japanese tradition. Setsubun is an event where we scatter roasted soybeans or peanuts with hulls, depending on where we live. Although the former case seems more popular to throw nationwide, we take a lot of peanuts hulls. Then, we pick up and bring them home. The reason for it is because historically we used to think that devils would appear at the turn of the season and exorcized the evils. Today, we learn and foster the folk tales, though we hardly believe that the imaginary character has been survived.
So, my kids and I went to visit the shrine with a community hall. The seniors had prepared peanuts with hulls and bagged snacks to be thrown. Because of the shrine, at first all the people prayed at the altar as clapping hands and placing them still.

【屋, house, ya】---- place for staying for sleep
We have a Chinese character which looks like 屋 in Japan, meaning house in general. 屋根 (Yane, roof), 屋上 (Okujou, house top), 屋外 (Okugai, outside house) are just a few of the examples. How does each part mean in terms of origin? I'll show you how it's composed.
As I posted the image for the Kanji, there are two parts to divide into --- the outside and the inside. You should stroke the upper part at first. This component, called "Shikabane" in the language, came from a lying person. Shikabane, or written as 死かばね, literally means a human body after death, because 死 symbolizes to die. In other words, Shikabane has the two meanings.
Then, the inside part 至 represents a bird flying down onto the ground. Eventually, this implies that "something comes here."
Therefore, today's Kanji was invented because a house was a place for people to visit and stay in for a long time.
In addition, another character 室, used such as in 教室 (kyoushitsu, classroom), takes the 至 part as well. The initial image for Itaru or 至 was also from the bird flying down. Not to mention, 室 is related to a room.
Previously, I had explained about 室. Here is the link, posted last September.

I hope you learn our Kanji characters in connection to one after another. It's interesting. To be honest, I'm learning them again, this time with my child!
