WHO:  Hi. I'm Nia@ITESO. I am from the USA and I teach English at a university in Guadalajara Mexico (-6 GMT). My students range in age from 18 to 24 or so, with English levels ranging from basic to intermediate. We are seeking native English speakers who are both college students and students of Spanish. If you're a native English speaker and a college student who  would like to practice Spanish via Skype do these three things:

  1. Click the "Sign Up" Button for this event,
  2. Send me a Skype text message at 1pm February 28, 2012. All dates and times stated are for Guadalajara Mexico (-6 GMT) (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/)
  3. Respond when one of my student calls you and stay on Skype until 1:45pm

WHAT: This is a Skype English/Spanish Language Exchange.  The first 20 minutes will be in Spanish on any subject you wish.  Our students will have questions prepared to interview you in English during the second 20 minutes.

WHERE: Skype, naturally.

WHY: The purpose of the exchange is to give you an opportunity to use your Spanish in an authentic way with a native speaker, enjoy the conversation and give my students much needed practice in question formation patterns, listening comprehension, and making oneself understood. 

HOW: If you are interested please do the following:

Hi Nia this is Fernando Najera,

 

I´m an English teacher at Universidad Tecnologica del Norte de Aguascalientes. We are also looking for an institution of nativie English speakers.

I was wondering that if possible we could partner up even though we are not native speakers but that in a complete session our students practice only English.  I think I saw an ad last week  where you where looking for a group to work with in the afternoon. I know that the best would be that our students worked with English native speaker but this is another form to have our students practicing their English.

Most of my students are from basic English level and their ages goes from 18 to 25 years.

We have a computer lab that has the necessary equipment to have virtual session dut to sometimes I have virtual sessions with other universities.

 

I hope in the future we can have a virtual session.

IAt this time we are not actively seeing L2-L2 conversations but rather 2/L1-L1/L2. However, there is obvious merit in hainvg L2 converstaions with non-native speakers. Afterall, in a world where English is a lingua franca, speaking Enlighs with non-native speakers of English is a reality.

I would like to speak with you via Skype on Friday morning or evening or on the weekend regarding how we might collaborate. For example I can share your information and proposal including gneral scheduling possibilities with every teachier who teaches English in my department at ITESO.  Please let me know the date and time that works best for you.
