家、室 (house and room) ---- from pig's house and bird

What do you think is the origin as I show this Japanese character "家?" Put simply, the bottom part is from a physical appearance of a pig. Don't you think it's funny? So I tell you the character from the animal, and one more relevant character means a room.

(1)家 (Ie, house)

First, the character for a house. Please see my figure. You can divide it into two parts on top and bottom.

The upper part, which looks like Katakana syllable "ウ (u)," is called "U kanmuri," which comes from a roof on the house. The Japanese "kanmuri" means "crown" literally. Here, this component plays a role as a hat or cap in the language. U-kanmuri is seen oftentimes as the component is related to "housing."

Then, the bottom part, as I said above, is from a pig.

After all, the animal was so valuable for each household in ancient times. Pigs, without fail, used to stay with family members. That's why the pig is taken on the Japanese character "house."

(2) 室 (shitsu or muro, room)

Another example using "U kanmuri" is "Shitsu (室)," meaning a certain room. When you say "Kyoushitsu (教室)," the Japanese means classroom. "教" has the meaning of "teaching."

As I say again, when the ウ crown is used, the outcome tells about housing. It's like a roof.

The lower part is from a bird, which is diving down toward the ground. This situation implies, "Something is reaching into a very deep space."

So, you can say this --- Where people stay as a room is the place that is deep inside the house. This character implies something that deep.

These characters are often seen in Japan. So as you learn them, you'll understand more various things. Your knowledge will expand.
