Every year this time, it's a great interest in my country Japan whether our nationals win a Nobel Prize. Or others had expected over the past few days if some prominent persons would be chosen.

Shinya Yamanaka, a Kyoto University professor, won this year's Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine. He shared the prize with John Gurdon of the Gurdon Institute, Cambridge, Britain.

Do you know Japanese words "Ikumen (イクメン)" and "Iku jii (イクジイ)?"  Both of them came from the Japanese character Iku, 育, meaning rearing children, growing a plant, or so on.

My family visited Fukushima Prefecture, which is neighboring to my Niigata prefecture, crossing over mountains through tunnels. We drove a car. You might have an unfavorable image about the prefecture due to the disaster which happened last March, but because I do live as a neighbor, I paid a visit, hoping that the disaster-hit area will recover by a lot of tourism. Also, the second Monday on October each year falls on a national holiday called Sports Day, honoring Tokyo Olympics held in 1964. We had a three-consecutive holiday and enjoyed the trip.
