The Master “IMABEE” is an international collaboration between four European universities, amongst others the University of Rennes 1, where I recently enrolled. “Biodiversity, ecology and evolution” is its wide-ranging subject, aiming mainly to impart knowledge in these three areas and additionally in modeling, methods of statistical analysis, and scientific methodology. This multidisciplinary approach between biology and informatics is one of the main reasons why I chose this Master. Acquiring the know-how of modeling the history and future of a given species whilst learning the general functioning of ecosystems, is an important step leading to my career as a researcher in population genetics. In my point of view, it is a very pertinent and up-to-date subject because through population genetics we can predict the adaptation of species to changes, like climate change for example and other scientists could use this information as a basis of their analysis on how to prevent e.g. biodiversity loss.

It is crucial to keep a constant flow of information between different institutions studying different populations of the given species, in order to take into account the new discoveries in its own research. I would like to contribute to this international scientific network by participating in this Master, whose second year I will spend abroad, probably in Aarhus, Denmark. IMABEE will be an excellent opportunity for me to combine my interest in acquiring information in various, diverse fields of study and my eager will to work in an international environment.
