My first tentative steps into the world of The Mixxer

10/11/2009 - 12:51 | armruggery

"You won't learn a language by just sitting around watching TV all day" is what I kept telling myself. Despite pushing to learn Japanese 3 years ago, I slacked off and my efforts amounted to very few achievements.

The ultimate embarrasement came when I attempted JLPT level 4 and failed. I do have a very reasonable excuse, having just been travelling for a month before the exam and not being able to do any revision. But the matter stands that I failed the exam and my fellow Japanese learners didn't. Infact, I felt fairly ashamed when they all spoke about how easy the exam was. Their faces fell silent when I told them how I had failed.

So I have joined The Mixxer in a desperate attempt to crack the very basics of Japanese. I'm not a COMPLETE begginer, but I obviously have a very long way to go before being able to hold a decent and fluent conversation.

To all the Japanese speakers out there - send me messages PLEASE! I don't mind if Japanese is your first or second language. But get in touch. Surely that is the aim of this website??!!

10/11/2009 - 08:31 | InnaLekshtedt

Its a book about a white bunny trying to get to Ibaru. Why is the Bunny trying to get to Ibaru? I dont know, but hope to fnd out :)

First page of the book:

さびしいおきのしまき, うさぎはひとりぼっちじゃ

うちよせるなみのかなたに, いなばのくにがあった

へなんとかしていなばのくにへ, わたっていきたいなはるかなみどりのやまやま, ひろいひろいのはらを, なかまとかけまわりたいと, うさぎはおもっておった

I have a children's book with a title:

I am trying to translate it, more for the purpose of learnig the hiragana, but it would be nice to actually be able to read it. I could use all the help I can get, any volunteers?

I know うさぎ (usagi) means bunny, the rest makes no sense when i translate it:

ありがとうございまず !!!

Looking for someone to talk to... English language bearer...

10/10/2009 - 17:33 | Yevgen
Hello! My name is Yevgen. I'm married. I'm an engineer, working at sea. I've been to many countries and I liked different languages. English is the language I have to improve due to my profession profile. This year I passed examination to University, to "Translator faculty" . After graduating I'm going to be a translator. My native languages are Russian(mother's) and Ukrainian(father's). I would help you to improve these languages. My wife is Ukrainian and Russian language teacher. If you need deep grammar, we can ask her. If you want to chat to me- just call, write. Now I'm staying at home and can answer any time.
Beforehand let me know what time you want to contact me. I'll try to answer to every body.

Hello! Looking for a Friend in Central or South America or in Spain who teaches English

10/10/2009 - 14:17 | vduque

Hello Friend,
My name is Viviana Duque and I am currently going for my masters degree in teaching for foreign language (Spanish).  I am not teaching yet, but hope to be in the education field in the very near future.  I am from New York, USA and live about one hour away from New York City area, the "city that never sleeps."  I'm hoping to establish a meaningful email correspondence with a teacher of English or a pre-service English teacher teaching in Central or South America or in Spain.
I would greatly appreciate any reply with great appreciation.
All the best,
Viviana Duque
