Guatemala is commonly known as a country of contrast and contradictions. It is the largest country and biggest economy of Central America but with the second lowest human development index of the region, being globally ranked in the position 12. According to the National Institute of Statistics INE, in 2011 the 53,7% of the population is considered poor, earning less than 3.10 US dollars per day. Extreme poverty or people living with 1.90 US per day, rose to 13.3%
