先週、家族で紅葉を見に、ドライブに行ってきました。場所は、同じ県内にある、魚沼スカイラインです。私の家からは、高速道路も使い、１時間ほどでつきました。

Last weekend, we went for a drive to see the autumn colors with my family. We visited a sightseeing road named Uonuma Skyline, located in my Niigata prefecture, Japan. It took about a hour, using an express highway, which is also a toll road.

魚沼というのは、新潟県にある地域の名前で、この観光道路は、新潟県南魚沼市にあります。公式ホームページによると、この観光道路は、約２０キロほどあるそうです。山をどんどん登っていくのですが、曲がりくねった、時には細い道を登っていきました。

Uonuma is a city name in Niigata prefecture. The region is also well-known as harvesting delicious rice in the country. In fact, the scenic road is found in the city of Minami Uonuma --- The kanji character Minami means south in our language. According to an official web page, the road on a mountain stretches about twenty kilometers. We climbed a winding road. It was narrow and sometimes scary. 

山は全体的に色づき、黄色や赤色に染まって、ほんとうにきれいでした。まさに見ごろでした。でも、下より寒かったです。

The mountains overwhelmingly turned red and yellow. It was fantastic. It was the best time in color. Yet, it was much colder at the top of the mountain than we were on the ground.

ほんとうに、細い道を登っていくようなところだったので、人もほとんどなく、上から眺める景色は、田んぼや家が広がり、新潟の田舎を感じさせるすばらしい景色でした。

Because the road was surely narrow, there were not so many tourists. It was calm and quiet. But the sentries seen from the top were rice paddies and houses, and it reminded me of a good old countryside.

日本の人は、秋になると、紅葉といって、木々が色づくのを楽しみに、その場所まで出かけますが、みなさんの国ではそういう楽しみ方はありますか。私は秋のこの景色は、とても感動します。

In Japan, when fall comes, we go to visit mountains to see the red and yellow foliage. Those leaves are called Koyo, each of Kanji means red and leaves. I wonder whether people in a foreign country have such an idea of enjoying the autumn. Personally, I love the season of fall and its beautiful landscapes.
