So, I am still trying to learn German on my own. I have decided to start reading a book paragraph by paragraph. Then, seeing how well I have understood the paragraph as a whole then, breaking it down word by word the best I can. Can you tell me how I am doing with this first chapter of Heidi? (D) Vom fruendlichen Dorfe Maienfeld führt ein fußweg durch grüne, baumreiche Fluren bis zum Fuße der Höhen, die von dieser Seite groß und ernst auf das Tal herniederschauen. Wo der Fußweg anfängt, beginnt bald Heideland mit dem kurzen Gras und den kräftigen Bergkräutern dem Kommenden entgegenzuduften, denn der Fußweg geht steil und direkt zu den Alpen hinauf.

(E) From the friendly Village Mayfield goes a footpath through green, wooded corridors "I looked up the words for  *wooded corridors*) to the foothills that from this location appear so tall and stern looking down upon them. Where the footpath begins soon Heideland you can begin to smell the short grass and the strong mountain herbs  coming (I looked up *mountain herbs against the smell coming* also). The footpath becomes steep and goes straight up to the Alps.
