昨日、私の住む新潟県の、新潟知事選挙の投票（不在者投票）へ行ってきました。
不在者投票って、どんなものか、外国に住んでいる人に、私の国のことについて説明したいと思います。
Yesterday I went to absentee voting for a governor's race. As I live in Niigata Prefecture, Japan, the gubernatorial election is held this Sunday and then its ballot box is opened.

不在者投票は、選挙日に、指定された投票場所に行けない時に、投票を行うことができます。
また、選挙の日よりも、前に投票もできるので、「期日前投票」とも言います。
今回は、新潟県の県知事選挙が１０月２１日（日）に行われるのですが、仕事やレジャーなどの理由で、投票所に行けない時、前もって投票を行うことができます。
Japanese people, who are over 20, can vote by absentee ballot before an election day if you are not able to go the designated ballot place.
Or you can call the system "early voting" instead, because of voting beforehand.
This time, as our election of Niigata is held on Oct. 21, not only a job but also a leisure are both legitimate reasons for the early voting.

なので、私も、きっとレジャーなどに出かけると思われるので、今日は時間もあるので、行って来ました。
Therefore, it seems I will go somewhere and I have enough time today, so I went to a voting station.

投票会場は、日曜日に行われるのと同様、厳粛な雰囲気の場所でした。会場は市役所です。
The venue was as quiet as other regular places on Sunday. The place was a city hall.

選挙の開票は、すぐに行われることが多いです。なので、今回も日曜日の深夜には、新しい知事がわかることでしょう。
In general, counting of votes will be done as soon as voting time ends.
So, we'll learn the result as early as Sunday's midnight, some hours later.
