先日9月22日(日本日時)、日本は秋分の日でした。

Some days ago, 22 September is "shuubunnnohi" in Japan.

秋分の日というのは昼と夜の長さが等しくなる日です。

"shuubunnnohi" is a day  length of daytime and night being equal.

1948年には、お寺参りの日・先祖供養の日など、宗教的慣例としてのまつりの日だけではなく、

In 1948, It is established to National holiday not only religious festival  for example visit to temple, repose of one's ancestor's soul and so on,

広い意味で「祖先を敬い、亡くなった人を偲ぶ日」として国民の祝日に制定されました。

 but in a broad sense "the day respect one's ancestors and remember late person".

日本人はお墓参りをしたり、おはぎを食べたりします。

Some Japanese visit to a grave and eating "ohagi"

おはぎとは、ぼたもちとも言い、お米をついてあずき餡やきなこなどをまぶした食べ物です。

"ohagi" is allso called "botamoti" pounding rice and putting 'adzuki' beans jam or 'kinako' and so on.  

あまり綺麗な見た目ではないですね（笑）
