Hello everyone and welcome to my second Italian lesson! If you didn't read the 1st one about verb to be (essere) click here:

http://www.language-exchanges.org/node/120163 and here's the exercise to print http://www.language-exchanges.org/node/120187

Well, welcome back! Today we're having a look at the verb AVERE (to have):

VERBO AVERE

  • Io ho = I have (got)
  • Tu hai = You (sing.) have (got)
  • Lui/lei ha = He/she has (got)
  • Noi abbiamo= We have (got)
  • Voi avete = You (plural) have (got)
  • Loro hanno = They have (got)

Now, a few points:

  1. The H letter in Italian it's mute. And probably you're going to wonder ' what's the point of writing it then?'. I know, it's practically useless and sometimes you'll even see Italian people forgetting to write it (which is veeeeery bad to me!!).
  2. As the verb essere (to be) also this one is irregular but, don't worry, not all Italian verbs will be like that!
  3. Both avere and essere are considered auxiliary verbs:

example: io ho fatto = I have done    these are auxiliary verbs, that, in a few words, are a kind of particles that allow you to create more complex verbal form

We won't talk about it now though. It is important that you focus on a few things everyday because you don't want to overcharge your mind!

In the next lesson we're going to talk about numbers and the basic human emotions.

Hope to see you soon!
