Bella ciao

Alla mattina, appena alzata,

o bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao

Alla mattina, appena alzata,

in risaia mi tocca andar.

E tra gli insetti e le zanzare,

duro lavoro ci tocca far.

O mamma mia, oh che tormento,

è così ogni doman.

Il capo in piedi, col suo bastone,

e noi curve a lavorar.

Ma verrà un giorno, che tutte quante

lavoreremo in libertà.

Translation:

Bye, beautiful lady

In the morning, just getting up,

Oh! Bye, beautiful lady! Bye...Bye...Bye!

In the morning, just getting up,

I have to go to the paddy field .

Near insects and mosquitoes,

we have to do a hard work .

Oh, goodness! What a torment it is!

And so will it be tomorrow.

The chief standing, with his staff,

and we get to work.

But, a day will come, when all of us

will work freely.

I colori dei mestieri

Io so i colori dei mestieri :

sono bianchi i panettieri,

s'alzano prima degli uccelli

e han farina nei capelli ;

sono neri gli spazzacamini,

di sette colori son gli imbianchini,

gli operai dell'officina

hanno una bella tuta azzurrina,

hanno le mani sporche di grasso ;

i fannulloni vanno a spasso,

non si sporcano nemmeno un dito,

ma il loro mestiere non è pulito.

Translation:

the colors of the crafts

I know the colors of the crafts:

bakers are white,

they get up before birds

and have flour in their hair;

the chimney sweeps are black,

the painters are of seven colors,

the workshop workers

have a nice blue suit,

their hands are dirty with grease;

the idlers go for a walk,

they don't get a finger dirty,

but their job is not clean.

mi metto in devozione,

non posso lavorar.

Sabato sì ch'è proprio il giorno buono ;

ma per un giorno solo

che vale lavorar ?

Translation :

The loafer's round dance

Monday, which is the day after the party,

Oh, God! I have a headache,

I can't work!

On Tuesday, I sit in the doorway

waiting for the desire

that I will have to work out.

On Wednesday, I prepare my tools,

but, alas! There is a toothache,

I can't work.

Thursday, which is very nice,

I really don't feel like

to go to work.

Friday, which is the day of passion,

I devote myself,

I can't work.

Saturday, indeed, that is the good day;

but for one day only

what is worth working?

Translation :

Vagrant profession

When I had to talk about the job, with my father who asked me, I replied:

"I want to be a seed seller!"

My father said that the seed seller was not a job: it was a carpenter, a mechanic or a baker.

As I insisted, my father said:

"The seed seller is a vagabond job! You must learn a profession. When you grow up, a seed seller will also seem to you a vagabond, a man who does not have the courage like what his job points out."

Look, Daddy, I am an adult, and poets do not yet have names.

Mestieri facili

Translation :

Easy crafts

A surgeon goes to pick up his machine, a foreign-brand custom vehicle, from the mechanic; not satisfied with how it was repaired, protests:

- "If I treat people the same way you repair cars, I certainly end up in jail!"

- "But, Dear Doctor", replies the mechanic, "your job is easier!".

- "Easier ? !"

- "Sure! Because you work only on two models and, moreover, that is never modified!".

Arriva l'idraulico

Translation :

A plumber knocks on a door. He says to the lady who opens the door:

- I'm the plumber, I came for that bathtub, for the water leak.

- Plumber ? ! Bathtub ? ! Water leak? ! But I didn't call any plumber!

- Aren't you Mrs. Bianchi? I have an urgent request here ...

- Oh, the Bianchi family ... But that family no longer lives here, they moved to Torino three months ago!

- "Look!", exclaims the plumber, "It is the usual joke! But I wonder how you work with these people! They are all the same, they call you for urgent work, and when you arrive they are not at home, indeed, they have even changed cities!
