Have someone visited other sites similar to "The mixer": I mean the type of sites that are intended to create an enviroment where people from all over the world could find penpal and doing so excercise and improve their foreign language skills?
I have tried to use those sites chat, thinking that having to write rapidly responding to the topics that are treated could be a valid way to improve my fluence.
In my mind I thought that there would be there persons non native speakers of the language that they want to learn (in my case English) which are searching for a social exchange of point of view about various things or experiences or topics.
Sadly it occours to me that in every chat room I've landed, of the 10 or so people connected at the moment, only two or three continuosly and rapidly are chatting between theirselves, in a way that suggest that they are native speaker and they knows each other well.
The times that I've tried to partecipate to the dialogue writing things about the treated subject, I saw that, due to the fact that I'm Italian, those "residents" promptly tend to virate to sports talking, especially about soccer teams, while if is an Arab who enter the discussion, they change the subject to religion or to Islam or things of those sort.
Am I wrong if I say so, in your experiences?
Or it's a sort of prejudice thing that afflicts the majority of us to judge people without great perspective?
