The war between Russia and Ukraine started in February 2022 with the occupation of the Ukraine territory by the Russian troops. In order to understand the reasons of the conflict, we have to go back in 2014, when, following the pro Russian protest, Ukraine’s Crimea was annexed to Russia with a status referendum. After this event, the pro-Russian Donbas region, in the east of Ukraine, established the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic, leading to the war in Donbass, in which Russian troops also participated. Starting from 2014, there are always been tensions between Russia and Ukraine. At the beginning of 2022, Russian president Putin started the mobilitation of the Russian troops on the border of Ukraine, announcing a "special military operation" in Ukraine. This officially got the war started. The Russian offensive hit the main cities in Ukraine, like Kiev and Mariupol, causing the destruction of these cities and the flight of many Ukranians to other European counties.

In the meantime, the leaders of Western European country responded by levying a raft of sanctions against Russia but this doesn’t seem to stop the Russian attacks on Ukraine. In fact, the latest news say that Russia is probably the responsible of two missiles that have hit a farm in Poland, near the border with Ukraine, causing the death of two people. In conclusion, it seems that the end of the conflict is still far away.
