I don’t agree with the sentence: “A political system is optimal not because it produces the policies that you prefer. It produces the policies that much smarter people prefer”. In a utopian world that can only be true if smart people think of the best for the community and have a high grade of empathy and education. It will be true the day most people think not only of their own benefit and think of the common one.  In my country, the smartest, richest, and with the biggest influential friends network are the thieves in the government and they are elected by the “wisdom of crowds”.

These crowds choose the government that supposes, unlike the private sector, is motivated by public interest. Nothing is farther from reality. Sometimes we feel the government just wants to take away our money for a benefit only of the few people that have power in these jobs. So, as always, we feel that the government doesn’t think of the best for our entire country, they think only of themselves.

Other people think that the ideal system depends on the cultural attributes of the population and this also seems false to me. I think although the system has to be aligned with all the cultural attributes of the population, it is not the ideal system. We have a lot of cultural problems in our society due to the lack of education and repetition of violent attitudes, most of them in the low-income population.

The ideal system doesn’t exist and to achieve it is imperative to make changes in the culture. For example, in our culture women are still underestimated, appearance is more important than values, people can get better jobs if they have money and friends. I agree that individuals should be admitted to schools and hired for jobs based on their abilities, not in the physical appearance, their relationship with the boss company, their race, or what university they graduated for.

And this is happening when you look for a job in the public sector.  You must have a very powerful friend who can help you get this kind of jobs. In my opinion, taxes should allow the government to create jobs and provide welfare programs for people in need, but they only offer welfare programs and steal money. Only a small percentage of the budget arrives at families in need and the other part remains in the pocket of our leaders.

But what really happens with those government programs is that they encourage people to become dependent and lazy instead of inspiring them to become hard-working and independent, making poor people more financially fragile. It would have been different if the taxes had been used would to create jobs and train people for that (It is the classic story of giving a man a fish or teaching him how to fish). It would have been different if we definitely get a better education and break the patron of violence and have better self-esteem. I guess I won’t see this in a near future…
