A recent article in a travel magazine presented unflattering views of people of a variety of different nationalities. Write a letter to the magazine giving your views on some typical national stereotypes and describing what image you think people of your nationality have to outsiders, together with whether you think this image is accurate or not.

Write your letter. Do not write any postal addresses.

Dear travel magazine,

I am writing in reply to your article regarding national stereotypes, which allows the readers to contribute with their personal view. I totally agree that every nationality has its own image projected to the outside, and I definitely want to compare others with the ones that my country is showing.

First of all, I consider stereotypes an insulting way of making different between countries. For example, we can say that German citizens are always square-minded just because some of their head-of-state people behave this way. Some Germans can consider themselves like that, but far from this stereotype, we can find so many people who are not narrow-minded at all. Moreover, talking from my own experience, stereotypes are only a way of damaging a country's image as it is happening here in Spain.

Unarguably, here we have the best example of mistaken stereotypes. Firstly, we have been considered to be a cruel and brutal country, in which there is no shame nor pain in killing animals, such as bulls - we are well known by our bullfights. But also to be a bit lazy, without looking forward to hard-working. In fact, these myths are too far from reality when we are examining our 21st century society. Not only do we fight for bulls' rights on the streets one day after another, carrying tens of demonstrations per month out, but also we can work as tough as any German employee can work. Nevertheless, it should also be taken into a account that some people may follow this stereotype due to our ancient habits, but it is not the case of the majority of the Spanish population.

So, to sum up, I strongly believe that stereotypes can distort countries' images as far as they are not real nowadays, even if some decades ago it was factually correct.

Your faithfully,
