I am working in applying to a scolarship, please if you can help me to find errors and find better way of saying things. Thank you!!!
What is your personal motivation for applying to Scholarship Program?
Going to college outside of my native country and being able to interconnect in a multicultural and diverse society, has been the most important dream that I have had until now. Surviving in a foreign country is hard. Yes, it is. And Latino immigrants struggle every day in the US to bring food, shelter, and clothes to themselves and their families. Obtaining a high college degree is even harder to achieve, especially if your basic needs are not met yet. Tuition is highly expensive and it makes it harder for us to get what we dream. An immigrant may don’t have too much economic support from family members and communities as native Americans whose families have been living in this nation for centuries. I don’t want to just survive in the US, it is not my ultimate goal. I want to continue growing as a person, as a human being, and as a leader for my Latino community. I want to learn as much as I can from this multicultural nation and endorsed back in my region. I want to apply to Scholarship Program because it has been the bridge to many Latino immigrants or sons of Latino immigrants who wants to study in the US and don't have the economic advantages to overcome the struggle of surviving and pay tuition by themselves. I believe this program will open me the possibility of free myself in finding sources that I need to focus more on my studying and investing my efforts to achieve my career goals
2. What are your academic and/ or career goals?
If you ask me; how do I project myself in 5 years? My answer is to work as a disaster risk management advisor in Latin America. The whole region has witnessed devasting natural and human disasters that have provoked a significant human and economic toll on its population, affecting the ability of every Latin nation to overcome poverty and to maximize their economic growth and social development. To reach this goal, I am preparing myself as Geographic Information Scientist who will be able to work with social and environmental data sources and geographic technologies and tools to observe, evaluate and find solutions to reduce disaster’s impact on the Latino population. In the past, I have prepared myself since I was living in Colombia (my native country) finishing my Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Management. I participated in different disaster risk management programs working as a research assistant and intern for a local preparedness office in Colombia. I worked in Guatemala as a researcher for an NGO that builds affordable housing for extreme poverty population. My career and personal goals are attached to my aspiration of becoming a social server that will use its skills and personal qualification to improve social and well-being conditions of Latinos in general
3. What skills could you bring to an employer?
When you are engaged in school, you had acquired and mastered valuable skills that you will use in your career and professional life. However, my personal and life journey also have brought me useful skills that I want to use and bring to my employer. Many of them are such as; ability to establish working relations in a multicultural team environment. Demonstrate openness to change and adapt to new circumstances and working environments. Ability to demonstrate strong team skills and ability to manage diversity and complexity. Work with energy and positive, constructive attitude and using oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish to complete job tasks and responsibilities.
