羽根つきは正月に女の子がするゲームで、バドミントンに似ています。羽子板という、美しい絵の描かれた木製のラケットを使って、羽根（羽を付けた小さな玉） を打ち合うのです。羽子板には、布で人物の絵を刺繍したものもあり、こちらは美しい置物として人気があります。 羽根つきには晴れ着を着て行い、打ち損じた人は顔を墨で一筆塗られるというルールもあります。

Battledore is a game such as badminton that some girls play on New Year's Day. They use wooden rackets called hagoita that beautifl picture is drawn and a small ball with feather called hane, and rally each others. Some hagoitas are shaped into a person by fabric elaborately and those are very popular as a lovely ornament. They play wearing Kimono and the game has a rule that a loser is drawn scribbled on the face by ink.
