Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing you in order to complaint about the article which appeared in yesterday’s issue of your newspaper. The article expounded that students in our country were lazy, poorly educated and contributed nothing to our society.
I would like to issue with the statement made by your journalist, Mark Brown, because my experience as a teacher for more than twenty years has shown me the contrary. In my capacity as a teacher I would like to highlight that students are not lazy at all. Our dear pupils are putting up with much more school hours than never before. All of them start early in the morning, spend the whole day at school and they also have to attend to after-school activities such as English lessons, due to the fact that it is something really necessary, I would better say compulsory, if they want to achieve success in their future. As a result, they not only study more than any student in the past, but also they have a longer obligatory education, thus we have the most trained generation that we have never had.
On the top of that, it is well known that many students are currently helping as volunteers in many charity organizations, therefore I would not asseverate that they contribute nothing to our society although maybe you alluded to the fact that they do not have a job when they finish their studies. If it is your point of view, you would keep in mind that seldom do they find a position when they complete their studies and on the contrary, this is not their fault, it is the result of a society that oblige them to made several things without expecting anything in return.
In conclusion, I feel if the more that we demand to the students, the more the society criticizes them instead of offering them real possibilities of success in our country. Consequently, please be careful with that kind of statements in your newspaper in the future.
