This research aims to investigate the concept of political discourse as a generator of a country’s image and identity. This relationship between political discourse, image and identity, is established by implementing the Greimas actancial model, together with the theory of the social imaginary of Cornelius Castoriadis and the principles of critical discourse analysis applied to the political narration. To do this, we have analysed the investiture speeches of the presidents that Spain has had in democracy, in order to observe how the discursive configurations that these texts contain in their narrative structures provide a defined story about the territory and the identity of its citizens through the main actants in the text.
