Yes, I agree that you will have more success in school or in the workplace if you are more creative. Creativity is a really important personal quality especially in an interconnected world like today. It will bring you freedom and financial stability if you are looking for an independent project, however, if you mix creativity with discipline, it will make you the best in everything. 
Creativity is an essential don for nowadays. The information resources are unlimited, every time is more easy to be connected, and new ideas around the globe are creating a new model of reality. Information flies really quick through social media and people are more connected than before. We are living in a place where everybody has something to say or a great thing to do. Furthermore, being an authentic person and having unique ideas will help people to jump faster finding new solutions or integrating new models and perspectives, new ways to do things. That is what creativity is about, it is to find new ways to see things,  and using it to change reality, to change the world. Furthermore, I believe that being a creative person will help you to see things from a different perspective and in consequence to have a real advantage over others. 
The other important thing about creativity is that if you know who to exploit it or make a profit from it, it will bring you economic independence and a lot of freedom. Nowadays, especially with the internet, we see some people gaining a lot of money for doing simple things, but using a lot of their ingenue. For example, the YouTubers are making a lot of money just being themselves. Another good example is the freelancers. People who explore the world and earn money just giving tips to travelers about local food, routes, or interesting places to visit. A creative mind always will have a vision and an open mind, important features if you want to succeed. 
Creativity is a really important quality to have, it will help you to open a lot of doors, however, discipline is the base that really makes the things happen. It is possible that you have really good ideas, or you have the heart to take great risks; however, if you cannot stay doing the same thing putting your whole attention to your projects, probably those good ideas never will become true. Discipline is like the stone where a house is built, the base of a building. Nothing stays longer if the base is not stable. Furthermore, it is possible to say that creativity and discipline are the two main ingredients to succeed in life.
