Mankind is living an astonishing era. This is something that anybody cannot doubt. Latest medical breakthroughs have help us to live much longer. Life expectancy has reached unimaginable levels and in the last 20 years another revolution called internet has arrived and it is currently in all the aspect of our life, changing all our habits and our point of view about the life and the Mankind itself.
But, what are the challenges that we ought to face in this new reality? What are we doing wrong with the younger people? Why is the generation gap so wide? Beyond any doubt we will find the answer out in our educational system. A system that we have not adapted to our new social circumstances and lives cling to old thoughts and a society that has nothing to do with our free and equal social system, at least in the western democratic countries. As I see, public education has been letting die and nowadays is in its worst moment. Instead of supporting a unique and high-quality public education in order to reach in the whole society the same level of breakthroughs than in other areas as medicine or communications. We, the society, have encouraged the two speeds educational system in which your success is based on the possibility of attending to a public school or a private one. The more you pay, the better chances to success.
Why, if we had surpassed the milestone of any kind of segregation, did not we do anything to finish segregation in education based in the incomes of your family? That matter and the absolutely lack of interest of our leaders about public education is bringing to our public schools sad and truly situations of lack of resources that sooner rather than later will become in serious social conflicts that will be really difficult to fight against.
Putting it nutshell, defending public education we are preventing enormous problems in the future and creating an equal and skilled generation in accordance with the rest of the areas of our culture. And believe me, this is the most important. No doubt.
