It seems to be a right thing for the rich to help the poor, however, personally I do not believe that the rich have a responsibility to help the poor in society for two reasons. 
First, the rich pay more tax than the poor. The poor pay few or no tax. That is　enough. The rich deserve to enjoy their wealth because they worked harder. Even if their success is due to their luck, it is their turn to have fun. 
Secondly, it is the government that has a responsibility to help the poor. That is how tax should be used. The poor can stay on welfare. It is only in a primitive society that the rich help the poor.
In modernized society the government redistributes wealth. 
Finally, I do not believe that the rich have a responsibility to help the poor for the reasons stated above. People do not have to worry about poverty individually. Obviously it is better to do than not to do. So in case of a huge disaster the rich are expected to donate for suffers. It is not responsible but recommendable. And it is good if they want to gain respect.
