I discovered Downton Abbey looking for a tv series that could help me to improve my English. The reason why I chose D.A. is for its typical british environment after Victorian age and for the “understandable” English accent of their characters.

This series take place in Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey and tells the story of an aristocratic family, the Crawley, and also tells, at the same time, the story of their servants at the house. As far as I remember, the characters and the story are quite similar to the tv series Upstairs and Downstairs.

Watching D.A you can have a clear idea of the english society at the begining of the twentieth century. The strong lines that separated aristocratic families from their servants, the formalities, the loyalty of the butler and how all of them develope and live their lives.

Once you have started watching you can stop it.
