I had to study an eco restoration project in english class. Mine was about the coral gardening in barrier reefs. The coral gardening mean to keep or save/preserve the coral. Coral reefs are less than 1% of the bottom of the ocean yet and the scientists had accounted for a good portion of all of our fisheries. It represents habitat, underwater forests and jungle and if we lose these jungle, we lose many organisms in it. In my documents they had talked about a decline of 2 main species of corals especially : The staghorn and the elkhorn corals. This decline was from 98% coverage of the reef to less than 2%. So the scientists had decided to find an alternive to preserve and restore this coral in this barrier reef. Thanks to new technology for restoration, they had succeed in make it them go back by the way of tissue culture. This technique is the microfragmentation and it consists in cutting them into as small a piece as possible to stimulates rapid healing and good grotwh. After this culture, they outplanting them back onto the reed. This technique allows corals to grow more than 25 time faster than normal in few month ! The (lucky)  problem of this lab now is that the corals are growing faster than they have the permission to outplant them.
