Ahmed Zewail (1946-2016), an Egyptian-American scientist who was awarded the Noble Prize in the scientific field as the first Arab who achieves that. He was known as (the father of the femtochemistry). As egyptian, he was the third person who won Noble Prize, after eleven years of Naguib Mahfouz (literature field-1988) and the Ex-president Anwar Al-Sadat (Nobel Peace Prize) in 1977, and Muhammed Al-Baradei followed him (2005 in Peace). Other international awards include the Wolf Prize in Chemistry (1993), The Tolman Medal (1997), the Priestly Medal from the American Chemical Sosciety in 2009 and Davy Medal from the Rroyal Sosciety in 2011.
In 1999, he received Egypt's highest state honor, the Grand Collar of the Nile. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by mor than twenty universites.
 
On April 27, 2009, President Barack Obama appointed him to the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, and in November of the same year, he was named the First United States Science Envoy to the Middle East.
 
In 2014, Zewail was named one of the 31 Arab Americans who have had an impact on America by Thrival Room.
 
The Zewail city of science and technology, established in 2000 and revived in 2011, is named in his honour
He left our wolrd on the evening of August 2,2016 aged 70 after a long battle with cancer. A military funeral was held for Zewail on August 7, 2016 at the El-Mosheer Tantawy mosque in Cairo, Egypt.
