In my own experience the factors that had more influence in my learning are personality, learning styles and motivation. In this reflection paper I’m going to discuss the importance that has every factor in a foreign language acquisition.

Personality: In my opinion this is an important factor in the second language acquisition, because your personality defines how you are, for example: if you are responsible, if you are intelligent, if you are shy, etcetera.  

Learning styles: Every person has a different ways to learn and we have to find out which is our best way to learn, in my case is easier for me learning visually, so the activities I do to learn a second language are reading a book, writing, watching movies, etcetera. We all learn in a different ways, the learning styles are: linguistic, logical-mathematic, naturalist, spatial, kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal and intrapersonal.

Motivation: I realized that motivation is a very important factor in the second language acquisition, if you are not  interested in learning a certain language, you won’t be able to learn it, is important to see that second language as a goal, have an important reason to learn it, otherwise you can’t strive enough. Furthermore motivation is the basis of the language acquisition.

In conclusion I noticed that learning a foreign language is not for everyone, you need to have some characteristics to achieve it. The factors mentioned before, are the most influential, at least in my experience. In addition, to be successful in language learning, you must be responsible, sociable, and smart. You have to know how you learn easily, and have a good reason to strive and achieve it as a goal.
