During the last century North America experienced many changes. Economic, social, and cultural changes, but when we talk out urban changes the reasons for it is kind of different than others. What do you think those reasons are?
In spite of the main motivations for those changes should be strictly dictated rules, books and plans, taking care about natural resources and preventing their early destruction, etc.; at the present time any of the real reason for these changes are completely influenced by political decision, oligarchy, natural resources insane exploitation, trends and make more money.
Basically the profit motive is at basis of everything, but it doesn't means that “profit” is the right motivation to do anything. We have to be aware about the place that we are living in and how we are using it. This thought is what we know as “socio-environmental responsibility” but it is useless if it doesn’t enable businesses to be profitable, because those ideals are nothing without the power of money that makes them grow.
Future of urban planning has to considerate the following points:
· The new-age technology
· The profit motive
· Governmental prohibition of environmental waste
Above we can see advantages and disadvantages, after raising awareness regarding the socio-environmental responsibility; we will have to face many limitations to develop our environment. A simple definition for development says that is a process which sets out to achieve progressive advancement to the human condition, involving taking action and attaining material growth and social fulfilment over time, but many people says that development happens only when the quality of life grows and that is related with the comfort and we just focus on that, forgetting everything regarding with our responsibility with the earth which is a factor on the quality of life grade.
In conclusion, we can say that it is not simple, there are a lot of limitations (political, social & economic) but it is important to start doing something, the changes start on mind and with more people thinking like that, the future of the urban planning will be better for every one of us.
