Essay Topic:"A company has announced that it wishes to build a large factory near your community. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this new influence on your community. Do you support or oppose the factory? Explain your position."

The news about a new factory to be built close to a town usually summons one single idea in the minds of the townsfolk: jobs. People from small towns generally welcome entrepreneurs who wish to establish their production sites near their towns. If the terrain is not fertile and there aren’t much alternatives for gaining money, people themselves would ask the company leaders to build factories in their lands.

Besides, more jobs mean more population. As the factory starts to function, many people from other parts of the country who work for the company come and settle down in the town. Because of these people, more stores open, more houses are built, and land and housing prices go up. This is a desirable outcome by the locals, who are naturally the owners of these lands and houses.

But there is also the other side of the medallion. A factory is generally associated with contamination, especially air pollution. If the company doesn't use new technologies in the building phase of the factory and doesn't follow the required environmental regulations, the people who are living in the town may get serious health problems. Apart from people, the land may also get polluted and infertile.

If the company acts responsibly, aware of the environmental risks, I would support the building of the new factory. If there is a probability of pollution, I would be against it.
