For the rational use of medicines, it is first necessary to establish the need for the use of the drug. However, due to the growth of the pharmaceutical industry, there is a very common problem in veterinary medicine: the increase in the number of cases of drug poisoning. Thus, the objective of this study was to group toxicological characteristics of some of the main medications usually available in the home of tutors, transforming it into a booklet for dissemination to the general public. Made from the reading of scientific articles, doctoral theses and master's theses, course papers and books that contained information on the subject in question, the booklet takes information to the tutor about medicines that can cause intoxication in dogs and cats of one didactic form and with accessible language considering that this is a situation that commonly affects several animals in home environment. The expectation is that with the booklet, reports of cases of drug intoxication in companion animals may decrease gradually.

Para o uso racional de medicamentos, é preciso, em primeiro lugar, estabelecer a necessidade do uso do medicamento. Porém, devido ao crescimento da indústria farmacêutica, observa-se um problema muito comum na medicina veterinária: o aumento do número de casos de intoxicações por medicamentos. Assim, o objetivo do presente trabalho foi agrupar características toxicológicas de alguns dos principais medicamentos usualmente disponíveis na casa dos tutores, transformando-o em uma cartilha para divulgação ao público em geral. Confeccionada a partir da leitura de artigos científicos, teses de doutorado e mestrado, trabalhos de conclusão de curso e livros que continham informações sobre o assunto em questão, a cartilha leva informação até o tutor sobre medicamentos que podem causar intoxicação em cães e gatos de uma forma didática e com linguagem acessível tendo em vista que essa é uma situação que comumente afeta diversos animais em ambiente domiciliar. A expectativa é que com a cartilha, relatos de casos de intoxicação medicamentosa em animais de companhia possam diminuir de forma gradativa.
