The hole in the ozone layer reached its major size in december, when it registered ten million square metres, more than twice of the average at this same dates, as measures submitted by researchers of the University of Santiago (Chile).
The researchers calculate the size of the hole using registered values by satellites during the las three last decades. Supported on those measurements they concluded that this year's hole was the fourth bigger since that those specialized data exist, reaching on october,  28 million of square kilometres.
The campaign started on november 15th to come to the Antarctic heart. Four researchers were involved and  600 kg of equipment of the best radiometric technology have been sent.
The polar scientific station is located at 70º southern latitude, to about 1000 kilometres from the south pole.
