I was asked to describe my opinion about the high rate of unemployment among university and college graduates.

To tell the truth, it is quite a complex problem that is relevant in numerous countries in the world. In my opinion, it is the responsibility of the given nation’s government to take sufficient steps towards a more advanced education and employment system. With the help of that, they could make balance between demand and supply on the labour market.

For instance, in the country where I am from, young graduates and other professionals are particularly threatened by unemployment. The phenomenon is caused by the small number of job opportunities offered for them in the beginning of their career. The expectations of employers are getting higher. There are extreme requirements, such as speaking minimum of two foreign languages, having relevant work experience. Unfortunately there are only a few candidates who meet these demands. Besides, the wages are ridiculously low or sometimes zero. This can be incredibly demotivating and many talented young professionals leave the country to look for better opportunities abroad.

To stop this tendency and help fresh graduates, the government should approach the problem from the side of the employers. They should receive financial support from the state to be able to offer paid internship positions for graduates in need. Thus they will feel motivated to work and earn not only money but work experience too. Corporations should enjoy tax benefits and further-educate younger or less experienced workers to make them their best employees.

In conclusion, governments and firms should cooperate and create a motivating environment for graduates. This would be a win-win situation where unemployment rate will decrease, businesses will rise, as well as tax incomes, that is beneficial for the state and its economy.
