Q. At the present time, the population of some countries includes a relatively large number of young adults, compared with the number of older people. Do the advantages of this situation outweigh the disadvantages? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Some countries like such developing countries as ones in Africa have a larger number of young adults than older people, and others such as Japan have more older people than young adults. Each country has several problems regarding its population. In this essay I will discuss both the advantages and disadvantages of the fact that there are more young adults than older people in some countries, and conclude the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

First of all, countries with many young adults are able to have many children, who will be labor force in the future. That there are enough labor force means the country will develop more and more. I have read in an article that in some countries in Africa it is natural that one woman bears four or more children in her life, and her children help their family at their early age. As a result, the children are used to working for their family and their country since they are young, and it means that it is possible that the country develop.

However, there are disadvantages of the fact that there are more young adults than older people. In general, countries with many young adults are developing countries, as I argued before. Therefore, children perhaps cannot live long due to the lack of medical technology or system. Some might argue that it is irresponsible that one woman bears many children even though they cannot lead satisfying lives.

In my opinion, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages in countries where more young adults are than the old. That countries have many children is absolutely the cause of development of the country and even if the children cannot live long now, medical system will be developed by future’s young adults.
