Engineers, who are thought believe in science & facts only. But some engineers in Taiwan has a interesting superstition that believing a snack could help things go smoothly. The magic snack is called "Kuai-kuai" (乖乖). In Mandarin, we use this term (Kuai-kuai) to describe or ask people to be nice and cooperative. So when some engineers met a tricky condition of their equipments, projects, or something goes wrong, they started to put a pack of "Kuai-Kuai" on the equipment or their desk. To pray that the name of the snack could bring the power to make things go well. And no one can eat the Kuai-kuai which plays as the guard. It becomes a sub-culture among Taiwan engineers. The Kuai-kuai has 3 colors of the package, stands for 3 different flavors. The green one is coconut & butter, the yellow one is a salty flavor, and the red one is chocolate flavor. It's believed only the green one has the power to make things good. Because red & yellow light of equipment ususally means warning or alert. The most interesting part is, generally, all foods are forbidden in the areas like labs, server rooms, production lines, or testing lines. But sometimes, Kuai-kuai might be treated as an exception. It doesn't means there is a clearly statement points out that "no food but only Kuai-kaui could enter this room." Just saying if people see Kuai-kuai in these areas, no one would get suprised. So if you visit an office or any work place in Taiwan, and see the green packs of snacks everywhere, but everyone just looks like ignoring them, don't be confused. And, don't eat them!
