After passing through TORII, the place is a sacred place which gods exist. So before passing through TORII, you should bow. When you enter the sacred area, if you walk left side of a path, you should take the left foot first. On the other hand, in case you walk right side of a path, you should take the right foot first.

The middle of the approach to a shrine is the way which the gods’ energy pass. It is called “ SEITYUU”. You have to walk the side of a road.
