Having received the foundation knowledge of Political Science at University of Warsaw, I am now applying for the Diplomacy and Foreign Policy program at the City, University of London to obtain a good specialist knowledge of the World of global Governance and to efficiently launch my full-time career afterwards.
Four years ago I moved to Poland to study where I realized that history and policy can be interpreted differently. I was raised in Russia and, as it known Poland and Russia have controversial facts about its past, time spend in Warsaw made it clear that almost all political misunderstandings because of historical events are built on subjectivity itself.
At about the same time, I had an internship at the Russian Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs and International Humanitarian Cooperation where I spent three years promoting internal and external awareness and collaborations of Russian culture in Poland. Working among diplomats gave me to understand that they has the ongoing responsibility of collecting and reporting information that could affect national interests. This profession provides endless opportunities for learning and development, presents intellectual challenge, demands negotiation capabilities and at the end of the day helps protect interests of the parties involved. I truly enjoy all these aspects of the job and this is the place I would like to be.
While my exchange program in London at Middlesex University I promoted actively the Russian education services and extended cooperation between educational institutions of the partner states. I have participated in Russian institutions to help them manage Russian-British relations in trade and culture. A diplomatic crisis (Russia-Skripal scandal) followed in this year worsened relations between Russia and the West, which has an immerse impact on all process is going then. It was a challenge for me as projects that I worked on were at stake but due to foreign policy and successful negotiation, we have managed to carry out effectively. Therefore I am preparing myself for an ability to examine and critically evaluate the role of foreign policy and diplomacy and to do so I require an additional knowledge and expertise.
I am very interested in the practical and nature of this course. There is also a number of modules which are of particular interest to me. For example, I believe, that Foreign Policy Analysis and Strategy, Diplomacy, and Decision Making module will become a unique opportunity for me to apply the recent learning into practice and to execute the job in the international environment. I particularly wish to work with Professor Inderjeet Parmar, whose work on the history, politics and sociology of Anglo-American foreign policy has been a great source of inspiration for me.
My bachelor's degree in Political Science was designed for those who has full knowledge of Polish history which was challenging for me. I was the only foreign student among peers, who came from another country study Policy at the University of Warsaw. As a result, some of my grades aren't good enough, principally on related to Polish policy and government subject. I believe that university is more than a place to simply learn academically – it is also a place to discover yourself and learn many valuable life lessons. There is no denying that I learned a lot from my experiences, including prepare myself not only for a program but a country where I am going to study. I hope that you will consider this information with the rest of application. I know that if I've been accepted I would be a good student and I hope very much that the Admissions Office will find my knowledge and background suitable for the Diplomacy and Foreign Policy course's participants at the City, University of London.
I want to study at a reputed university, with a stimulating environment as I have always lived in major cities. City, University of London has become one of the best in the UK with a highly international outlook; it has top professors and is located in the middle of a historic city, and accessible to everything. It has a strong international relations program which would be perfect for me since I have attended a diverse international school. I noticed all these things when I visited. Given City University’s notable reputation and history, I would be excited by the opportunity to attend such a strong and knowledgeable institution.
