After I graduate with a marketing Master degree, I would like to work at an international company that has oversea branches in different countries. Working abroad is the goal that I want to achieve in my early stage. I plan to work in a western country for a year, work in an Asia country for 1-2 years, and apply to an MBA program if I need to fulfill a further career goal. I prefer to work in a consumer good industry because I think it is a good way to understand a country’s culture value, local people’s lifestyles and their purchase behaviors. However, there are two major challenges that I will encounter in the early stage of my career and I have to overcome both of them. The first challenge is to understand the different ways people communicate in western countries. I can’t see things from the western perspective only by learning from the available online information, but by being fully immersed in the local environment so that I will experience the culture and social norms of the people I'll be marketing to. Thus, before working in a western country, I want to study marking and become a consumer insight expert, especially to live in a big city and make myself familiar enough with western culture. Digital marketing provides people with a new way to interact with the company. Studying digital marketing enables me to get closer to my potential client by appropriating localization and flexibility to adhere to local customs and customer needs. The second challenge is my competitiveness with the natives. It's not always easy to convince a local employer to hire a foreign employee when there's a comparable employee who is the native of the country. Therefore, networking will be an essential tool for me to meet more prospects and to know people who I won’t be able to reach on my own. By doing so, I will have more opportunities to market myself effectively.
