Tobacco is one of the biggest causes of cancer. In my country, cigarette advertisements have been limited several years ago. However, my opinion is that all the tobacco should not be banned from the point of view civil liberties. Smoking is one of people’s most famous stress reliever. Of course, it is clear that smoking causes cancer, however, there are still some people who prefers to do it. Sometimes, they say, “I love cigarette, so if I can smoke a lot, it is OK to die”. Why only tobacco adviertisements should be banned and not alcohol, coffee and so on? Another reason why I think it should not be banned is that there are still many employees working in the tobacco industory. If tobacco advertisements stops, it might lead to their bankruptcy, which, in effect, will lead to a lot people losing their jobs. Last example is, the average price of the cigarette was ￥220 but now, it goes up to around ￥440 per pack. Most of the fee is tax. So this means, the tax imposed on cigarettes will be beneficial to the government, too. As I mentioned above, civil liberties, tax , and tobacco industry, I can say that they should not ban the cigarette advertisements, perhaps just minimize it. At the end of the day, whether we ban the advertisements or not, how people would use tobaccos would still depend on them.
