Last weekend I went to run near my little town. On holiday we like to return there. I had been several weeks without going out so it was a bit hard for me, but I enjoy to push myself a bit. I arrived to the ancient ruins of Numancia, near the present city of Soria. I enjoy this place. Numancia was the last town to be put down in center Spain by the Romans. It was inhabited by the Arevacs, the strongest celtiberic tribe in Spain. Despite they were not warriors but humble sheperds, they contained roman's advance for twenty years. Eventually, after an eleven month's siege, the city was captured by Escipion's army. Romans had even to divert river's course in order to made Numancia to surrender. Most of them preferred suicide to being made slaves. Nowadays only a few remains remember us the fight of those sheperds that faced the most powerful empire in the world.
