数年前、僕は「吸血鬼という言葉を知る必要がないと思う」と言われました。

その時から、「魔法」「魔導士」「使い魔」「転生」「精霊」など、いろんな日常的でない言葉が出て、それを暗記しました。

なぜかというと、ファンタジーのライトノベルをたくさん読んだからです！

王族に関する単語以外、中世のファンタジーは読みやすい傾向があると思います。

（ところで、僕はSF派ですが、未来的なSFでは難しい科学的な言葉が次々と出てしまう恐れがあるのです。）

一番好きなファンタジーの物語は「女神なんてお断りですっ。」というシリーズです。

今僕は最終編を読み終える寸前です。

読み終わったら、寂しいと思います。

ティアという主人公が圧倒的に力強くても気軽で楽しいキャラです。

ティアがいつも奥の手があるということは僕は大好きです。

彼女が友達に件の奥の手を出すときに申し訳なさそう顔を思い描くと爆笑をしました。

面白さはさておき（長くなりそうし）、そのシリーズのおかげで新しい動詞や表現をたくさん学んで、もっと早く読めるようになったと思います。

でも、やっぱり「吸血鬼」という言葉を知る必要がなかったです。

A few years ago, I was told, "I don't think you need to know the word 'vampire.'"

Since then, I've seen and memorized a lot of words like "magic," "sorcerer," "familiar," "reincarnation," and "spirit" that you wouldn't use in your daily life.

Why, you ask? Because I read a lot of fantasy light novels!

Other than words pertaining to royalty, I think that medieval fantasies tend to be easy to read.

(Incidentally, I'm a sci-fi guy, but I'm worried that there will be a lot of difficult scientific words in futuristic sci-fi.)

My favorite fantasy story is the series called "I Refuse To Be a Goddess."

I'm about to finish reading the last volume.

I'm going to feel lonely when I finish reading it.

The main character, Tia, is overwhelmingly powerful, yet carefree and fun.

I love the way she always has another surprise up her sleeve.

Imagining her apologetic face when she reveals the aforementioned surprises to her friends had me rolling with laughter.

Putting aside the humorous aspect (I could go on forever), I think I learned a lot of new verbs and phrases and such and can read faster thanks to that series.

But, indeed, I didn't need to know the word 'vampire.'
