The training was excellent and the research lines were very interesting. I had a very fruitful interaction with my supervisor and colleagues. All of them are passionate about their research and are meticulous and thorough when it comes to experimentation and data analysis. Furthermore, I was exposed to experimental techniques and research lines in which I had had no previous experience. This was particularly enriching from a professional point of view. I am certain that the experience that I acquired in the use of optical tables and in the alignment of optical components will prove invaluable for my future as a researcher. Before arriving in Bologna, I had worked mostly with commercial equipment and hence I had little to no experience in the use of home-built optical setups. Now I feel confident enough to undertake research projects involving both commercial and home-built setups. This would probably allow me to assemble home-built equipment on my own and therefore reduce costs. Additionally, I learnt to interpret the PL spectra of thin organic semiconductor films and organic crystals. I am now adept at analysing the PL spectrum in order to make inferences about the way in which the organic molecules interact with each other. The knowledge that I have acquired thanks to this fellowship can be applied to the study of a wide variety of biological and non-biological systems. Therefore, I believe that it will be extremely beneficial for my future research activities.
