Hello! I'm here again!
*Disclaimer: This is my second post and I'm still learning English. Therefore, it's possible that the content is not too good or incomplete*
Have you watched The Hunger Games? Did you like it? Yes? No? Why? Poor acting? Any other reason?
Well, I'm not an expert about criticizing movies so I won't do that. After I watched the first movie of The Hunger Games, I fell in love with the movie content. Content? How? Well. How do I explain this?
First, Panem is governed by a dictator and he, and his team, used entertainment to distract public attention from more important matters (source: wikia). Are not we living this? Are countries governors or news using other news to distract us from more important matters? Maybe they are going to do something wrong then the news, governors, etc focus on other stuff, that make us to forget temporary/permanent what happened (and don't forget that we already have a lot of distractions). And when someone who have no "voice" try to get back the important topic, what happens? Everyone ignore him until it's a HUGE problem and can't be solved easily.
Panem's people are always looking to have the best things they can wear or to show off to other people. And this sentence doesn't need proof. You have to see a lot of photo or videos from social medias that will tell you how people are living these days. And how do you have to look for every situation in your life to success (and if you don't look like they say...probably you will be rejected). Basically, we are living a fake life as Panem's citizens.
Finally, the last thing I will mention is the Game (it consist on sending people from different towns (called districts) into a "Last Man standing match" on a closed dome (only one survive and the others are killed by themselves). The purpose of this game is to punish all the towns (districts) who made a rebellion in the past so the Panem's dictator decided to make a punishment using a game). I have two things to say in this point. 1) My first thought is that this game will be real in the future as "Survivor" reality shows are now. Why? People get boring of the same thing. How do we make something new and more entertained? Making it more difficult or risky likes this game. We are losing sensibility (or sensitivity?) on this topics. How? Have you watched everyday videos? Now we have access to videos that presents us people suffering from attacks, being murder, exploding, etc and that affect us in a way that we are going to see that in the future as a normal thing. 2) I'm not going to talk about wars but if you see that game in a macro way, you will get what I try to say. And for sure, Panem's citizen and dictator don't care about who die as, in real world?
Remember, my comparison isn't to say that we are going to have these games in the future with a dictator. We have facts that make us to be similar to the movie and we have to see them. The people who govern this world know what is happening but we are hygnotized by them. My last question is,
Is this movie sending a message to find a Mockingjay (hero) (fighter or lawyer) to be the population's voice and "fired" the people who aren't governing correctly (hard to determined but obvious sometimes)? Or those who control the world?
P.S.: Maybe I generalized a lot but wasn't my intentions.
