Talking about the Mediterranean way of life, Malta and Spain.

Speaking and comparing two countries such as Malta and Spain we can find many similarities and also some differences. As for cultural roots, it can be said that they are very similar since they belonged
to the Roman Empire and have a lot of influence from the Arab countries.

We can also observe how similar are their climate because the two countries belong to the Mediterranean, so almost all of the year they have the same temperature, although some winters are a bit cold. Therefore there is a very mild climate.

The two countries have a lot to visit, do and enjoy, in both we can find magnificent beaches, beautiful monuments and a fantastic gastronomy of both the mountain and the sea.

Furthermore another important feature of these countries is siesta; people are in a rest on this time, shops don’t work at lunchtime, most of them open at 9 am in the morning and work until about 2 pm, then open again at 4 pm and work until 9 pm.

We can also say that in both countries you can practice many sports and because of its good weather allows tourists to go for hiking and bike tours all the year round, water activities are possibly too, as diving, surfing, windsurfing, and water skiing, you can find numerous sport centers.

Another thing in which the two countries are very similar is in religion, over 95 percent of the population are Roman Catholics, although not all people are very practicing. Nevertheless the year is filled with important religious events, and all localities are identified with patron saints who are celebrated, somewhat competitively, including processions.

Politically speaking these two countries are democracies supported by a constitution however Malta is a republic while Spain is a monarchy

Some difference we can find are their languages, while in Spain the official language is Spanish in Malta there are two Maltese and English because it was an English colony for a long time. Maltese also have a great Italian influencie.

As far as I am concerned, I prefer Spain because it is bigger and there is much more to see and to do, although it could also be because I was born there.
