Nowadays we have heard and watched how people want to live their lives with fewer things but with more experiences, going through know countries, landscapes, cultures, food, and experience everything outside their home comfort. This is a contrast when looking back on the huge houses where people use to live and the lot of things we accumulate in our entire life and we deny to throw away. To set off this way of life, people started to follow an architectural and social movement called tiny house that encourages living a simpler life getting by in a smaller space, it means you can’t take with you everything but the kitchen sink. This fascination with this way of life isn’t rocket science, taking into account the going up the cost of living than a large home has, the environmental benefits with fewer utilities and construction materials, and the practicality of working less in chores and maintenance that people experiences once they move into their new tiny home, although we know this isn’t always a bed of roses. I looked into various episodes of the TV show “Tiny House Nation” the difficult part of taking up the project of almost all the families and how they put off the decision at the point of putting the plan on the shelf for years, was the problem to tell it to their extended families. Most of them are prevented from the way that they are going to react, they can think they are a basket case and start a storm in a teacup in their heads without even tell them. Once they take up the project and look forward for finish soon, they do everything under the table. They give away 80% of their belongings, put in appliances of last technologies, put together with wood furniture with a lot of drawers and set up every space to take advantage of 40 square meters that this tiny houses have in average. Finally they show proudly the project almost finished to their parents and parents in law and notice they turn out to be wrong and their families support without jump on the idea in most of the cases. If you like this new style of life, it is important to know before taking this decision, that you will have less living space, less storage space, limited entertaining capability, difficulty to find where to be established, and zoning rules. Even though these disadvantages, I think is a perfect option for young and retired people that prefer a simple living, more freedom. The tiny life is about financial freedom and living a more engaged life with the luxury of time to do what YOU want.
