I agree with the idea that there will be fewer cars in use than today in twenty years. I have three reasons to follow my opinion. First is from economic viewpoint. Second is from public viewpoint. Last is from Internet viewpoint.
I’ll tell you first reason from economic viewpoint. Even nowadays, young Japanese people don’t seem they would like to buy car because of the price. When we make cars, we have to use many materials, like iron, plastic, electronic system and so on. It takes a lot of time and money. Life style keeps changing. “A car” is no longer a symbol for the young as a rich man. I think if the people in twenty years have amount of money by which they can afford to buy car, they will not use the money not for a car, but other hobbies.
Second reason is from public viewpoint. Me myself, and I almost have no chance to use my car because I usually use public transportation to commute to my university. In twenty years the public transportation system will be developed enough, so we will be able to go anywhere without using a car. And the public transportation is much cheaper than using car. It takes a lot of money to use a car because of tax, gas, and repair. The public transportation also solve economic problem. So we don’t have to use a car, the amount of cars in number will decrease in twenty years.
Third reason is from Internet viewpoint. “Nomad Worker ” is common word in Japan lately. It means people those who don’t have peculiar working place. In other word, they do work without going to the office, like they can work at Starbucks. I mean Internet progress release us from “place”. We don’t need go out to work. For example, we can use Skype as a substitute of attending a conference. So in twenty years we don’t need a car to commute.
In conclusion, I agree with the idea that there will be fewer cars in use than today in twenty years from three different viewpoints.
