Transmilenio
The principal main of transport in Bogotá is Transmilenio. That is a system which works by buses, but not normal buses, those buses are bi-articulated buses. What it means is that Transmilenio buses are like two buses jointed or stuck. They go along special lanes where only Transmilenio buses can transit. So, this mean of transport can become fast, except for times when there is an accident or a social manifestation. Then, extensive traffic jams of buses are shaped and the only thing you can do is to wait. If you want to get off the bus you have to wait a little until the bus driver receive the order which allow people get off the bus. It cost about 0.75 dollars and it does not work 24 hours a day.
Buses SITP
Transmilenio is complemented by other kind of buses called SITP buses (Sistema integrado de transporte público). Well, in fact, Transmilenio belongs to this big company, but we, common people, do the difference between these two means of transport in everyday language. There are two main differences between Transmilenio and SITP: 1. SITP buses are not jointed buses and 2. SITP buses do not have an exclusive lane. In this way, SITP buses can be in traffic jams with taxis and other cars. Therefore, SITP can be slower than Transmilenio. This mean of transport does not work 24 hours a day either and it cost almost the same than Transmilenio –It is a bit cheaper.
